Starting a collection
At times I used postcards as bookmarkers. So I found my postcards all over the place...
If you are just starting a collection locate your postcards onhand. Then put the word out- ask your family & friends to send you some.
And now with the internet there all kinds of postcard clubs and groups and sites. You may want to join several to get your collection growing.
So you will need to keep good records- who you send to and who you recieve from. It is easy to keep track of who you recieve from because you have their cards in your album or box.
You will need to make some kind of chart of who you send to... list dates & sources (which group or club they are from) to make it easier to know where to thank the person when you do an exchange.
Always include a return address on your cards and let the person know where you found them.
So you have your list of who you have sent too, when you recieve an exchange card from them just check off their name.
Do not panic if you do not get your exchange card right away. They may not have extra cards and postage at home. And work or school shedules may prevent them from shopping immeditaely. It may take a couple weeks. Try to honor all your exchanges as soon as possiable.
If you deciede to do on-going exchanges with the same person you will need to keep track of which cards you have sent them so you don't send the same one twice.
Where to get postcards if you are not on vacation? Some Hallmark stores carry them. Gas staions use to but they don't any more. Meijers stores have a nice selection. They sell 10 for $3.00. You will want to keep extras onhand for trading.

Albums or boxes?
How do you display your postcards? I find them easier to view in albums. Tho For years I kept mine in boxes.
But now I have them in scrapbooks & albums.
Do not use the old sticky pages albums! They will ruien your photos and postcards, after a few years they will be hard to remove and may damage your keepstakes. And you want to be able to read the backs of your postcards.

Scrapbooking
Postcards also make for interesting scrapbook pages. They add that a little extra embellishment to bring back pleasent memories.
Designing personal holiday postcards also are fun when family photos are added.
Stamp collecting also go well with postcard collecting. Remember when it only cost 6 cents to mail a postcard? It cost 23 cents now.
I also collect turtles so if you have any turtle postcards and want to trade, let me know.
I prefer to trade stamped postmarked cards but if you want yours blank and unused that's ok. You can mail 4 or 5 postcards in an envenlope for one first class postage. (70 cents if out of the USA)

Welcome to Postcards of yesteryear
I have been collecting postcards for a couple decades now. I recently came across my collection from the 70's and decided to add to it.

I found one from a grade school friend who wrote on it 'save this card because it's the only one you are going to get' and true to her word it is the only one I got from her.

My Father died in the early 90's and I treasure the cards I sent & recieved from him.

Postcards are more than just landscapes and maps to look at. They are records of your travels and messages from friends and family.
So here I will share some postcard stories and please feel free to add yours.
